This has been on my mind all day. it's actually a topic about tips & gratuity's.

OK went to get a submarine sandwich for lunch today. Actually i ordered a regular tuna sandwich w/ cheese and  had it MXXX's way.. won't say what chain but that is a hint.. with the M being legit and the X's to be covering the real name . My problem was when i went to pay , i payed with my debit card, and when i went to look the screen it gave me four choice's i believe. leave 10% , leave 15% or leave 20% i believe where the options. and the last being leave no gratuity,  ya know when you swipe your card that machine, not sure the correct term for it, the machine where you swipe your credit card. just googled it : i believe the term is magnetic strip reader .Anyway left 10% . The point of this little blog is , feel that some of these sandwich shops are a bit aggressive with the gratuity , i mean it's like a theatrical spectacle sometimes with cow bells if you leave a tip , or sometimes they shout out "beer money" . one time i left a 5% gratuity at the same chain that yells out "beer money" (and when the cashier saw the 5% gratuity it was a very unenthusiastic    "beer money') . OK i worked in
the restaurant industry for years and relied on tips to make ends meet .However i was a server in a full service restaurant, which make's it different. it's just when you go out today you see tip jar's at donut shops, juice bars ,pizzeria's yogurt shops , salad makers that make the salad for ya, but don't actually serve you, etc.etc.Everywhere tip jars are so prevalent.Remember going to a sub shop in my hometown called Bob Nadeau's (in Manchester NH, wonder if they have tip jars, today, anyway best steak and cheese in the Northeast) Was just a teenager in those days and you just didn't leave a gratuity. Why doesn't the corporation give the worker's a better hourly wage  rather then  have them acting as organized beggars (actor's) to get a extra tip.We live in a very recessionary time and being borderline extorted at the submarine shop  is not good business practice. Imagine if you went to pay with your credit card at a Mcdonald's and the cashier gave you a slip with a tip line to tip her (or the employees had a tip jar). Sandwich shops are very similar to a Mcdonald's if you think about it!
